A gas explosion inside a Perth kitchen has left a 34-year-old man with severe burns to much of his body.

The explosion was enough to shatter windows on Clemham Way, Kelmscott and send neighbours running before 7pm on Monday.

Quick-thinking first responders rushed the victim into a neighbour's bath and covered him in cold water.
