Man in court over attack on MP's nephew

A man who allegedly glassed federal MP Graham Perrett's nephew in a Brisbane street fight has been released from custody after facing court.

Luke Perrett was taken to hospital last Saturday night with injuries to his face after he was attacked walking down a street in the CBD.

His federal MP uncle tweeted pictures of his nephew being treated in hospital, saying the incident had galvanised his view that something needed to be done about alcohol-related violence.

Joseph Tornatore, 19, was granted bail in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

It's understood police will allege Tornatore was among a group of people who walked past Mr Perrett and his friends on the corner of Mary and Albert Street around 11pm (AEST).

Police will claim Tornatore broke a glass bottle on Mr Perrett's face, causing lacerations and nerve damage.

Tornatore himself allegedly sustained a broken nose and black eye after he was chased down by members of Mr Perrett's group.

He was released on bail on the condition he stay away from the Brisbane CBD between the hours of 7pm and 7am.
