A man has been glassed in the neck during an argument at a pub at Lake Macquarie, in NSW's Hunter region.

Police were called to the Warners Bay about 10pm last night, and arrived to find a 24-year-old man with serious lacerations to his neck, the NSW Police Force said in a statement.

He had allegedly been struck with a glass by a 19-year-old man, after they became involved in an argument.

Paramedics treated the older man at the scene by paramedics and took him to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

He remains in hospital and police believe he is now in a stable condition.

The younger man was taken to Belmont Hospital under police guard for treatment to minor finger lacerations.

Investigations are ongoing and charges are expected to be laid, police said.
