A man has died after being found with critical injuries on the side of the road in the NSW Blue Mountains.

A person was reportedly seen unresponsive on the side of the road at the Great Western Highway and Sinclair Crescent, in Leura at 11pm yesterday.

Police arrived and found a man unconscious with serious head and torso injuries.

A person was reportedly seen unresponsive on the side of the road at the Great Western Highway and Sinclair Crescent, in Leura at 11pm yesterday. Google Maps

Initial inquiries suggest the man was struck by a car, causing his injuries.

He was treated by paramedics but he was declared dead at the scene.

He's not yet been formally identified but he is believed to be aged in his 40s.

Shortly after, a man in his 50s self-presented at Katoomba Police Station.

He was taken to Katoomba Hospital for mandatory testing.

As investigations continue, police say they are "specifically interested in any information about a man seen walking along the Great Western Highway or Sinclair Crescent in the hours before 11pm."
