Cyclist dies after collision with garbage truck

A cyclist who died after colliding with a garbage truck is the second person to die on Victoria's road this long weekend.

Authorities said the cyclist and truck were travelling along Moorooduc Highway near Bungower Road about 10.40am.

The male cyclist, who hasn't been identified, died at the scene.

The male truck driver stopped at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries.

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist is in a critical condition after colliding with a car in Heathcote.

The motorcyclist, aged in his 50s, is fighting for life, while the driver of the car is being treated for shock.

Overnight, a man has died in a car crash in Victoria's west.

The 50-year-old was travelling on Pomonal Road in Stawell where it is understood his vehicle collided with a tree just before 7.30pm.

When emergency services arrived, they found the wrecked blue ute upside down on its roof.

The man died at the scene and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash.

This brings the death toll on Victorian roads to 93 this year compared to 109 in 2017.
