Police question man over stabbing death in Melbourne’s CBD

A man is being questioned over a stabbing murder in a busy Chinatown carpark in Melbourne’s CBD.

Police allege both men were seen fighting at a restaurant before the argument turned violent.

It was a horrific end to a lunchtime dispute between two men.

"At some stage between them leaving the restaurant here and attending the car park a knife has been produced and one of the men has been stabbed," Detective Senior Sergeant Steve McIntosh said.

It was 12:45 this afternoon when police and paramedics were called to the Golden Square carpark.

They found one man bleeding and unconscious - another man was being restrained with blood on his hands.

“We believe he knew the victim, at this point in time he's assisting with our inquiries,” he said.

He was arrested without incident.

Moments after arriving at Royal Melbourne Hospital, the victim was pronounced dead.

Chinatown was transformed into a crime scene, forensic police seizing the victim's phone and wallet.

Witnesses have told police the two men were seen arguing at this Chinese restaurant before it spilled out onto Little Bourke Street.

Both men have made their way to the underpass of the carpark, where the argument turned violent.

“It is a very public location obviously it’s going to be disturbing to people who witnessed it,” Det Sen Sgt McIntosh said.

No charges have been laid.
