Man who stabbed step-daughter to death wants bail while he awaits outcome of appeal

A man convicted of the stabbing murder of his step-daughter has applied to be released on bail, while he awaits the outcome of an appeal. 

Raymond John Mead was convicted in November 2016 over the fatal stabbing of 23-year-old mother Sherelle Locke. 

The incident occurred in the family's Boronia Heights home in 2014, in front of Locke's mother Marlene. 

During Mead's trial the court heard Locke's mother was unable to go to her daughter's aid, because Mead threatened she "would be next".

When emergency crews arrived at the scene, Mead initially tried to tell officers Locke's own mother was responsible for the attack. 

The court also heard Mead had told a neighbour he didn't like his step-daughter and that he would stab her if he knew he wouldn't get caught. 

Mead is serving a life sentence, and is amid his second appeal.

A case for whether he should be released will be heard on Friday.
