Man charged over Kings Cross sex attack

A man who allegedly sexually assaulted a young woman in Sydney's Kings Cross in January has been charged, a day after police released CCTV footage from the night.

A 22-year-old woman was allegedly attacked by the man as she walked along Bayswater Road in the early hours of the morning.

She'd previously spoken to him as she ordered food from a nearby takeaway shop, from where he followed and attacked her.

The young woman eventually fled.

Police released clear CCTV footage on Wednesday to try to identify the man after a series of initial leads proved fruitless.

That night, a 35-year-old Roseville man turned up at Kings Cross Police Station and was arrested.

He was charged with sexual assault and granted conditional bail.

He'll appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on May 15.
