Man and woman charged over allegedly assaulting paramedics

A man is behind bars after allegedly assaulting three paramedics and a police officer in Sydney’s south-west.

Three paramedics attended a home on Betsey Way in Ambarvale about 12.30am today after receiving reports of a man requiring assistance.

As they tended to the 26-year-old man, police allege he grabbed one of the paramedics and threw her across the room.

The man allegedly swung his forearm and struck a second paramedic in the chest before pushing the third paramedic as he moved outside.

Police arrested the man and subdued him with pepper spray when he rushed them while handcuffed.

The three paramedics and a police officer sustained minor injuries.

The man was later charged with three counts of assault, malicious damage, intimidation, assaulting an officer in execution of duty and resisting an officer in execution of duty.

The 26-year-old was refused bail and will appear in court later today.

A 23-year-old woman who attempted to stop the man’s arrest was also charged after she allegedly assaulted one of the paramedics who tried to restrain her.

She was granted conditional bail to appear in court on October 9.
