A man has been charged with malicious wounding over a stabbing in Sydney's inner west.

Police say they were called to a unit in Marrickville at about 7.15pm (AEDT) on Tuesday where they found a man with a stab wound in his abdomen, apparently received during an argument with another man.

The 53-year-old was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment.

Police found a 47-year-old man with head injuries nearby a short time later and he was also taken to hospital for treatment.

He was arrested after being released from hospital on Wednesday evening and charged with malicious wounding.
