Man charged for allegedly pulling small kitchen knife on Sydney metro

A man who allegedly carried a knife onto a crowded Sydney Metro train has been charged.

Police from the Hills Area Command said the 38-year-old man was seen "acting erratically" and smoking a vape on the platform at North Ryde before he boarded the train yesterday evening.

During the journey, the man allegedly pulled out the small kitchen knife in view of commuters, which caused alarm.

Passengers told authorities before transport police confronted the accused man at Rouse Hill Metro Station and on nearby Windsor Road.

Police said he was arrested safely after a "tense encounter".

The man was charged with carrying a knife in a public place, causing fear and multiple counts of intimidation.

He will appear before Parramatta Local Court at a later date.
