Man charged after stabbing and shooting incident in NSW

A man has been charged after an alleged stabbing and shooting in the NSW Riverina Region.

Police arrived at the property in Wilks Park in North Wagga Wagga at 12.30pm on Thursday after reports of a shooting.

They were told that a 42-year-old man had been allegedly stabbed with a pair of scissors by a 33-year-old man.

The 33-year-old man was then allegedly shot by a third man, who had left the scene.

Before police had even arrived at the property in North Wagga Wagga the 42-year-old man attended Wagga Wagga Base Hospital with a wound to his neck.

Police found a 33-year-old man swimming in the Murrumbidgee River nearby.

Officers asked him to get out of the river but he allegedly refused before swimming to an island and climbing up a tree.

The man was arrested on Friday following a police operation.

He was taken to hospital and remains there under police guard.

Police also seized a gun and a pair of scissors, which they believe was used in the incident.

The 33-year-old man was charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Investigations are still underway to find the third man allegedly involved.

He appeared in Wagga Wagga Local Court via bedside hearing on Friday.

He was refused bail and will reappear in the same court on October 16.

The 42-year-old man was treated and released on Friday.
