Man arrested for allegedly stringing wires across popular bike path

A man has been arrested after allegedly stringing wires across a popular bike path in Adelaide.

Police arrested the 18-year-old from Noarlunga Downs on Wednesday after they appealed for public help.

Investigations began last Friday when three men riding their bikes along the Southern Expressway at Hackham West about 6.20am were struck and sent flying.

They had been riding at 35km/h when they hit the wire.

Police established it had been removed from a fence and then tied to a tree across the path.

Two of the three men suffered minor injuries, including nasty bruises. Their bicycles, worth more than $10,000, were severely damaged.

Then on Monday about 6.45am, a woman riding her bike on the path between Honeypot Road and Beach Road struck a wire that had been strung across the path.

She avoided injury, but extensive damage was caused to her bicycle.

The 18-year-old man has been charged with four counts of endangering life and refused police bail.

He was scheduled to appear in court yesterday.
