Man arrested after allegedly detaining second man inside burning Sydney home

Police officers have been forced to pull two men from a burning house in western Sydney this morning, with a resident allegedly setting the house alight before detaining the other man inside the home.

Officers are investigating the alleged domestic violence incident on Wangara Street in Doonside.

Emergency services were called there about 4.25am over reports of people arguing and a blaze at the home.

On arrival, police found a black Jeep out the front of the house which had been damaged, and the property well alight.

A second car that was torched was later found at the back of the property.

Police allege a 46-year-old man set fire to his own home and detained a 35-year-old as the house burned.

Four officers forced entry into the burning home and discovered the two men, with one allegedly detaining the other.

Police were able to separate them and both were pulled from the burning home.

Acting Superintendent Daniel Bennett commended the police who responded to the blaze, describing their actions as "nothing short of heroic".

"They attended a violent situation with a house engulfed in flames and we need to remember they are not equipped with full fire protective equipment," he said.

The 46-year-old man was arrested and taken to hospital, where he is being treated for burns to his back.

He remains there under police guard.

The second man suffered facial injuries and was taken to Blacktown Hospital.

The four police officers were assessed at the scene by paramedics.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze.

A crime scene has been set up and investigations continue.
