Man accused of killing toddler stands trial in Melbourne
A man accused of killing Melbourne toddler Jaidyn Gomes-Sebastiao has faced the first day of his murder trial.
Brendan Pallant, 35, pleaded not guilty to murdering the two-year-old in September last year.
The prosecution alleges Pallant used a 4.5 kilogram metal table to kill the toddler.

It's alleged that Pallant entered the boy's bedroom and seriously assaulted him during a short but profound period of frustration, anger, impatience, and loss of self control.
The court heard Pallant was babysitting while Jaidyn's mother, Stacie Saggers, went to work.
Pallant had been in a relationship with Saggers for a month and moved in less than a month before the boy's death.
The Crown prosecutor addressed the pathologist's findings after the toddler's death.

He noted many injuries on Jaidyn and he will speak of more than 30 separate bruises and injuries.
A crime scene video was played to the jury.
It showed upended furniture throughout the house, including a metal table in a bedroom. In that room there were red marks on the carpet, and on the bed and walls.
Pallant's defence team argued he wasn't the last person to see the boy alive, claiming Saggers had put him to bed.
She is expected to give evidence when the trial continues on Thursday.
