Man accused of killing Australian brothers was assassin, court told

A court in Mexico has heard one of the men accused of killing Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson and their American friend was an assassin.

Jack and Callum Robinson, from Perth, and their US friend Jack Carter Road, were shot dead in what’s believed to be a robbery gone wrong in the Baja California region of Mexico, in April 2024.

Among the three men accused of murdering the Robinsons and Road is the alleged ringleader, Jesus “El Kekas” Giraldo.

Last November, his former girlfriend, Ari Gisell Garcia Cota, 23, was jailed for 20 years over having a role in the deaths.

On Monday (Tuesday AEST) she testified before the murder trial in Ensenada, the ABC reports.

Gisell told the court  Giraldo was a hit man who always carried a gun and had a list of people who he planned to kill.

It’s alleged Giraldo and the others tried to steal the tyres off the Robinson’s and Road’s car before the travellers intervened and fought back.

Gerardo described to Gisell how he killed the men and mocked their pleading.

He said one of the trio shouted, “please don’t kill me because I have a wife”, Gisell told the court.

Testifying on Monday, she said they first met the Robinson brothers and Rhoad at Punta San Jose, a remote surfing spot where the travellers were camping.

Gisell described the tourists as very “kind” and “friendly”, and when the accused Mexicans asked for fuel, they were happy to oblige.

The court was told she and Jesus Gerardo left the beach and returned to his mother’s home, but he and his stepson later went back to the beach.

When Jesus Gerardo returned he had three phones in his pocket, two chain necklaces, and blood was on his boots.

Gisell testified she did not query him because she feared his standing as an assassin with a streak of violence.
