Liquor store worker chases down alleged axe attacker on Sydney's northern beaches
A liquor store employee who was threatened by a teenager with a pickaxe has chased down and caught the alleged attempted robber.
Police have charged a 16-year-old boy with allegedly brandishing the axe during an attempted robbery of the Avalon store, on Sydney’s northern beaches.
The teen approached the 40-year-old shop attendant about 9pm last night, police said.
The pair then struggled, and the teen was hit in the ribs with the axe.
He fled and was chased by the man, who caught him in a nearby street.
The boy was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital and treated for bruised ribs.
He was charged with assault and intent to rob armed with an offensive weapon, and was refused bail to face a children’s court later today.
