Pilot's lucky escape after plane makes emergency landing

A pilot has walked away from a light plane crash with no serious injuries after the aircraft went down south of Brisbane.

Queensland Ambulance said a light plane crashed on Lollard Street in Hillcrest, south of Brisbane, around 6am.

The pilot was forced to make an emergency landing on a makeshift runway, with homes just metres away and little margin for error.

The 30-year-old woman made it out of the wreck with just a few scrapes and bruises.

The AirMed passenger transport plane had been travelling from Sydney's Bankstown Airport to Archerfield Airport in Brisbane carrying freight.

It was just 15 kilometres from its destination when it crashed.

No patients were on board.

Residents from nearby houses were first on the scene before emergency services arrived minutes later.

Queensland Ambulance Service operations supervisor James Van Den Bogert said the pilot walked away with minor injuries.

"Just some bruising to her lower limbs and a couple of lacerations to her face so on the whole really, really well for what we see behind us," he said.

The pilot was transferred to hospital for assessment and discharged earlier this afternoon.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.

AirMed said the company is assisting authorities.
