Pilot dies after home-made plane crash at Laidley

The pilot of a home-made ultralight plane has died after crashing the aircraft into a paddock west of Brisbane.

Emergency crews were called to Laidley after the plane smashed into the paddock about 5pm yesterday.

Paramedics arrived on the scene near Old Laidley-Forest Road where the 84-year-old man was confirmed dead.

The experienced pilot was alone when the plane crashed with no one else injured. Police are now investigating the incident.

Acting Inspector Regan Draheim said the plane appeared to have crashed suddenly and there were no signs of engine failure.

The victim's family in Coomera have been notified of his death.
