Labor recruits Gillard for fundraising

Labor has recruited Julia Gillard to raise funds for its federal election campaigning.

The former prime minister has used much of her time post-politics to promote education, travelling the world in her role as chairwoman of the Global Partnership for Education.

In an online video produced for an ALP fundraising campaign, Ms Gillard expresses her delight at Labor's school funding plan, Your Child, Our Future.

"As you know we're in an election year. So there couldn't be a more important time to get Labor's education message out," she says.

She endorses Labor leader Bill Shorten as the former education minister who spearheaded the Labor government's needs-based funding system.

Ms Gillard remains a popular figure within the party.

At the ALP national conference last year the women's group Emily's List sold out of fundraising tea towels printed with the former prime minister's misogyny speech.
