Labor ahead in Redcliffe by-election count

Labor is well ahead in the Redcliffe by-election in Queensland with 56 per cent of the vote counted.

Labor has gained a 15.7 per cent swing to lead the Liberal National Party 56 per cent to 44 per cent in two-party preferred results published at 7.45pm (AEST).

LNP candidate Kerri-Anne Dooley is yet to concede defeat, but she and Premier Campbell Newman are due to arrive at their party function.

Labor candidate Yvette D'Ath is not far off gaining Labor's eighth seat in the 89-seat Queensland parliament.

The electorate, northeast of Brisbane, has been without representation since November when LNP member turned independent Scott Driscoll quit after he was fined $90,000 for contempt of parliament over dodgy business dealings.
