Toddler pulled from Western Sydney pool after near-drowning

A little boy has been rushed to hospital after being pulled unresponsive from a backyard swimming pool in Sydney's west.

Ambulances were called to a home in Kellyville today following reports a three-year-old boy had nearly drowned.

NSW Ambulance Inspector Nathan Sheraton said when they arrived CPR had already being performed on the boy.

"NSW Ambulance responded to what appeared to be a young child that had drowned," Insp. Sheraton told 9news.

"Upon our arrival we found a three-year-old boy conscious and breathing and crying post having CPR performed.

"The patient was transported in a stable condition to Westmead Children's hospital for further examination."

Inspector Sheraton said the was wake-up notice for parents to keep an eye on their children as summer approaches.

"This comes as a timely reminder that we have to be vigilant during hot periods around waterways and pools," he said.

Last summer 249 people drowned in Australian waterways, 18 of whom were children under the age of five.
