Ibrahim girlfriend's gun trial delayed so she can look after dying mother

The girlfriend of King Cross identity John Ibrahim has had her gun possession trial delayed due to her mother's terminal illness.

The trial of 29-year-old Sarah Budge, who is accused of possessing an unauthorised Glock 26 pistol, was due to start in the NSW District Court today.

But Judge Helen Syme referred to an affidavit which said Budge's mother was in palliative care and was not expected to live for very long.

"The position of her mother puts her in a position where she is required to assist her mother in her last days," the judge said. "I accept that."

Judge Syme concluded "there is no way" in those circumstances a fair trial could be held at present.

The case will be mentioned on Friday when a new trial date will be set.
