Jetstar announces increased flight capacity for Adelaide Airport

Adelaide Airport is set to experience a significant increase in flight capacity after Jetstar announced 13 new weekly flights to and from the South Australian capital. 

The additional services, starting at the end of next month, will increase the airline's Adelaide services by nearly 20 per cent – an additional 350,000 seats a year.

The expanded schedule will focus on three key domestic routes.

Flights between Adelaide and Melbourne will increase from 35 to 40 per week, while services to Brisbane will rise from 10 to 14. Access to Perth will also be improved, with weekly flights increasing from 7 to 11.

"It's a great vote of confidence in South Australia," Dermot O'Neill from Adelaide Airport said. 

"This is important news, it's good news for South Australians looking to travel, but it also provides great access to visitors as well."

The announcement follows Adelaide Airport's recent unveiling of a $600 million upgrade project designed to accommodate the increasing number of passengers passing through its terminals.

"This decision from Jetstar is very much a vindication of all the work we've put in and we don't want to see it go to waste," Premier Peter Malinauskas said.

The new flights could also lead to lower airfares.

"When we have more aircraft coming into our market that adds a lot of extra competition … and we tend to see prices start to come down in that regard," Anthony Hunter from RAA Travel said.
