Jail for dangerous driver who killed Melbourne mums

The 21-year-old man who killed two Melbourne mothers in a high-speed collision last year has been jailed for eight years.

Mohamad Hassan pleaded guilty to two counts of culpable driving causing death.

He will be eligible for parole in six years and two months.

Hassan was driving at more than 120km/h in an 80km/h zone when he crashed into a car containing Bozica Nikolic, 57, and Subha Deumic, 62, in Attwood last June.

Hassan had raced through a red light when the crash happened.

The crash was witnessed by Ms Deumic's daughters who were driving in the car behind.

"I have nightmares of the scene and what happened is always in my mind and will be for the rest of my life," Ms Deumic's daughter Mina told a Melbourne court yesterday.

Hassan will likely be deported to his home country of Lebanon at the end of his sentence.

His family came to Australia as refugees.
