Ipswich mayor disputes tender claims

Ipswich City Council has dismissed allegations it excluded a contractor from tendering processes because of a long-running vendetta.

Concreters Robert and Jackie Sellars claimed they were snubbed after demanding the council's former chief executive officer Carl Wulff pay an outstanding 2007 bill for work done on his driveway, the ABC reports.

Mayor Paul Pisasale said the pair were at no time excluded from any tender and quotation process.

The Sellars' company had been appointed to a preferred panel of suppliers, but it was later discovered they had not registered with the Building Services Authority and could not supply any further work until appropriate licences were obtained, he said.

"Today's airing of claims appears to be made by one former contractor with an axe to grind," Mr Pisasale said.

The council said it would welcome any further review, but the state's Auditor-General declined to comment on whether he was investigating the allegation.
