Injuries during ACT Aust Day eve storm

Two women are in hospital after falls during a wild Australia Day eve hailstorm which battered Canberra.

The ACT State Emergency Service received 423 calls after heavy rain and hail struck the capital on Monday night.

It completed 200 jobs before crews stood down after midnight, with ACT Fire and Rescue continuing to assess damage throughout Tuesday morning.

Residents at Tuggeranong reported power outages and localised flooding, while firefighters responded to fallen power lines at Curtin and Theodore.

A woman has a broken arm after falling off a ladder during the storm at Richardson.

Intensive care paramedics treated the 42-year-old before she was taken to Canberra Hospital in a stable condition.

They also treated an elderly woman who sustained suspected spinal injuries after falling at Isabella Plains.

Emergency crews were expected to resume call-out services at 8.30am.
