Ice users ram a police car in Melbourne

A couple were seen by police smoking an ice pipe in a stolen car and then rammed a police vehicle before before driving off, in suburban Melbourne.

Police say that when officers knocked on the car's passenger window, the man put the car into reverse and slammed into the marked police car.

He then drove forward, causing the officers to leap out of the way.

This allegedly happened on May 22 in Sunshine, and policy say the same man and woman were responsible for a theft in nearby Caroline Springs on May 16.

The pair visited a medical centre, where they stole a credit card from a handbag, later using it to buy cigarettes, alcohol, mobile phones and clothing.

Security camera images of the pair have been released.
