The Aussie capital where you can still buy property for under $500k
New data from CoreLogic shows the housing market has continued its recovery with a 14th consecutive month of value increases.
But prices still differ starkly around Australia.
Here's what you can currently expect to pay as the median value for a home in all our capital cities, according to the latest numbers.
9. Darwin
The Northern Territory capital of Darwin is the only capital where people can properly expect to pay under half a million, with the median home price at $498,433.
8. Regional Australia
Darwin's home values even lagged behind the combined market of regional Australia (handsomely represented here by Broken Hill, NSW), where the median home price is $620,032.
7. Hobart
Hobart's homes averaged $649,097.
5. Adelaide
In the middle of the pack, Adelaide's median house price is $734,173.
4. Melbourne
In Melbourne, buyers can expect a median average of $778,892.
2. Canberra
In the national capital, homes average at $838,976.
1. Sydney
And, surely not to the surprise of residents in this crowded market, Sydney is unchallenged as the most expensive place to buy, with a median price of $1,139,375.
