Police investigate alleged attempted abduction of schoolgirl in Melbourne CBD

A schoolgirl has been left shaken after two would-be kidnappers attempted to snatch her from a popular Melbourne laneway.

The 14-year-old, who doesn't want to be identified, was on a school excursion last month when a man approached her on Hosier Lane.

"He started to talk about how I was very pretty, and then he grabbed my arm and tried to pull me closer to him," she said.

Police are searching for the man and a woman who was with him after the attempted abduction on November 15 around 10.30am.

The man allegedly tried to drag the schoolgirl with him, before a good Samaritan stepped in and pretended to be a teacher, allowing her to break free.

The girl was not physically injured during the incident.

The man, who was with a woman, left the scene on foot towards Flinders Lane.

The girl said she had been taking photos with her friends in the laneway when they were approached by the ma, who may have been substance-affected.

The quick-thinking stranger had posed as a school teacher and intervened, and the Year 9 student was able to break free.

"I was very relieved, I just burst into tears," she said.

"All I could think about was how hard he was holding onto me."

Police describe the man as having dark-coloured skin and a slim build.

He was wearing black sunglasses, dark-coloured long pants, a dark-coloured hoodie with a red hood, black shoes with white soles, and was carrying a black backpack and black bum bag.

The woman is perceived to be Asian in appearance, with a solid build and long black hair.

She was wearing a purple puffer jacket, beige/light pink t-shirt, blue jeans, white and fluoro orange shoes and a blue backpack.

Police have asked anyone with more information to contact Crime Stoppers.
