More than seven weeks after being detained in Egypt, Australian journalist Peter Greste is due to face court for the first time on Thursday.

The 48-year-old Al-Jazeera reporter along with some of his network colleagues is accused of having links to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood.

They deny the claim.

Greste's Brisbane-based parents Juris and Lois said "stress levels shot up" after learning the hearing will be inside the Tora prison instead of in a public courtroom.

"We don't know anything about the possible outcome," Mrs Greste told the ABC.

"We will not go there," she added, when asked if she has considered the possibility her son will be handed the maximum seven-year jail term for the offence.
