Greens push for voice for animals

The Australian Greens are having another crack at setting up an independent body to advise the government on animal protection.

The Greens introduced the Voice for Animals private bill - which would establish a body to review and monitor live export standards and report on animal welfare issues - into the Senate on Tuesday.

A previous bill to establish an independent office of animal welfare was introduced by the Greens in the lower house in 2013, but lapsed when the Abbott government took office.
