Govt still ahead, boost for Albo: Newspoll

The federal coalition's lead over the Labor opposition remains unchanged, despite concerns the government isn't doing enough to support the economy and help drought-stricken farmers.

It's still ahead by just two percentage points at 51 per cent to 49 per cent on a two-party preferred basis, a fresh Newspoll published on Monday by The Australian shows.

It's the fourth poll in a row to show the same result.

But while the government isn't making any more headway over Labor, Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese appears to be improving in the eyes of voters.

On the preferred prime minister stakes, his rating rose one point to 32 per cent while Mr Morrison lost three points to 47 per cent.

On a primary basis, Newspoll found the coalition had 42 per cent popular support against Labor on 33 per cent.
