Govt must avoid gridlock: business

The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry says the re-elected Turnbull government must stick to its guns in cutting business taxes to help support job creation.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull faces a tough challenge implementing his 10-year plan to reduce the company tax rate given the expanded Senate crossbench, but the chamber's boss James Pearson has been lobbying politicians to avoid another three years of gridlock.

"We have been very clear in saying to the crossbenchers as well as to the opposition that the responsibility is on their shoulders ... to make policy on behalf of the national interest," Mr Pearson told reporters in Canberra on Monday.
