MyGov crashes as users rush to file tax returns
Australians looking to lodge their tax returns are facing delays online after the myGov and ATO websites crashed this morning.
The Tax Office says the website is undergoing “scheduled maintenance” the same week millions of dollars in bonus rebates are supposed to flow to low and middle income earners.
In a tweet the Australian Tax Office says it’s working on the issue.

“Some of our services (incl. the portals & our online services via myGov) are currently unavailable or experiencing slowness. We’re working on the issue & apologise for the inconvenience.”
The Australian Tax Office has also apologised for the system failure.
The ATO website claims it’s currently undergoing scheduled system maintenance but was due to be up and running by 7am AEST.
More than a million Australian’s have already lodged their tax returns, almost double the figure this time last year.
Earlier this week Treasurer Josh Frydenberg claimed the spike in lodgements is due to the government passing its promised tax cuts.
Around ten million Australians are eligible to receive bonus rebates up to $1080 in their 2018/19 tax returns.
