Gough, dole and MP perks on parly agenda

MPs are soon to have their final say in parliament on the death of former prime minister Gough Whitlam.

A condolence motion for the Labor icon, who died last week aged 98, is expected to wrap up on Tuesday.

MPs will then get down to business debating proposed laws, including one that seeks to stop dole payments for jobseekers who fail to turn up for appointments and another that freezes the indexation of the private health insurance rebate and Medicare levy surcharge.

Bills that water down parliamentary travel entitlements for former and current MPs and those that abolish the office of the Australian Information Commissioner will also be debated.

There will also be debate on legislation that brings the Australian Sports Anti-Doping agency in line with global codes.
