Gold Coast council inspectors have raised eyebrows after they rummaged through ratepayers' rubbish and snapped pictures.
Oxenford local John Georgiou was taken by surprise when council workers sifted through his waste.
"They just opened the lids and went looking around, something like that," Georgiou said.

Other residents raised concerns online after they spotted inspectors investigating what was in their rubbish bins.
This week, 50 bins across two electorates will be randomly audited.
This will include some residents in Oxenford, Hope Island, Helensvale, Burleigh Waters, Mermaid Beach and Miami.
Council inspectors will record the bin's weight, how full it is and whether the waste inside is disposed of correctly.

The last audit revealed on average general waste bins are filled with 50 per cent compostable organics like food, 30 per cent residual waste and 20 per cent recyclables.
The data collected isn't linked to a resident's address.
"We'll make sure from now on that everything is spot on," Georgiou said.
"I hope everybody does the same."
