Gold Coast police officer facing four assault charges

A Gold Coast police officer from an elite action squad is facing four charges of assault for allegedly bashing restrained prisoners.

The 29-year-old was officially suspended by Queensland Police Service yesterday after he was stood down on March 2 over claims of police brutality.

Senior Constable Aaron Minns was a member of Rapid Action Policing squad, who star in the reality television show Gold Coast Cops, The Courier Mail reports.

It is alleged one of the incidents Senior Constable Minns is charged with left a prisoner with broken ribs.

Footage was filmed on body cameras worn by police officers referred to the Ethical Standards Command for an investigation.

Now the Senior Constable will face Brisbane Magistrates Court on October 14 with criminal charges hanging over his head.

He has been suspended with full pay until the court appearance.

The suspension and charges are the latest in a series of police brutality claims that have rocked the Gold Coast police in recent weeks.

Several videos filmed by members of the public have been leaked online showing alleged brutality by Gold Coast officers.

An internal review of Gold Coast police culture is underway, after being announced on August 28.
