Gold Coast driver narrowly escapes burning ute

A man is recovering in hospital after his ute caught fire on the Gold Coast overnight.

The 57-year-old suffered superficial burns to his arm in the fire on Eggersdord Road at Jacobs Well about 12.20am, and was taken to Logan Hospital. 

He has told police he was the victim of an attempted car theft, and officers are investigating those claims.

The ute was destroyed in the fire, and no one else was found near the scene.
