Fortnite gamer sentenced for assaulting pregnant partner

Sydney gamer Luke Munday has been sentenced to a 14-month intensive corrections order for assaulting his pregnant partner after refusing to stop playing Fornite to eat dinner with his family.

The 27-year-old was caught assaulting his partner after he inadvertently live-streamed the incident for viewers while playing the game last year.

The video shows Munday playing the game on his computer while his partner can be heard asking him to come to dinner.

The pair begin to argue and Munday can be seen standing up and walking out of the frame.

After the woman threw objects at Munday and the computer, he stood up and slapped the left side of her face, before she threw further items and he pushed her to the floor.

Munday's lawyer today told the court the assault was "just a slap" - remarks for which he was rebuked by magistrate Mark Douglass.

Because of the positioning of the webcam, video of the assault was not captured.

But the live-streaming captured audio of the altercation, during which the woman can be heard screaming before a loud slapping sound and crying.

The couple's two young children were allegedly in the room and can be heard crying in the background.

Concerned gamers contacted police after witnessing the incident.

Following the assault, Mundy was suspended from his job as a Telstra Engineer and was also banned from playing Fortnite.

According to the agreed statement of facts, "The accused showed remorse for his actions during the (police) interview stating that he was aware his actions were inappropriate and that he should not have done what he did."
