Footballer turned bikie freed on bail

An NRL player turned bikie will walk free from prison after being granted bail on a charge of threatening a restaurant worker.

Former Sydney Roosters player Anthony Watts has been behind bars since February charged with threatening to kill another man and causing a public nuisance.

The 27-year-old Gold Coast footballer, who claims to have left the Mongols bikie gang, allegedly committed the crimes at Broadbeach on February 23 while on parole.

Watts was granted bail in the Supreme Court in Brisbane on Wednesday in a rare court win after a troubled year.

Last June he was sentenced to 120 hours community service for brawling with rival gang members on the Gold Coast.

In September he was banned from the Gold Coast Rugby League for eight matches for biting another player's penis.

And in October he was jailed for three months for breaching a domestic violence order, failing to complete community service and driving while disqualified.

He was released in mid-January, only to find himself behind bars less than six weeks later charged with the current offences.
