Flash flooding causes traffic chaos in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley

Cars have been filmed banked up and trying to cross a flooded road in the inner Brisbane suburb of Fortitude Valley – one of many affected by heavy rain across the east coast.

Video shows one person pushing a car out of the water on McLachlan Street in New Farm, with many cars on the other side of the water doing U-turns in front of waiting traffic.

This morning, the Brisbane CBD recorded more than 69mm of rain in one hour, and roads in Woolloongabba, Auchenflower, Toombul and other suburbs were also flooded.

Two cars were swept away in Toombul, and the dangerous conditions may have also contributed to a crash that killed two people in North Ipswich.
