'Biggest I've ever seen': Massive python pops under during outback dinner

A five-metre long python has crashed a gourmet outback dinner in Western Australia in an appearance that took event organisers by surprise.

Gourmet Camp Oven Experience owner Josh Melville said the three-course dinner had just wrapped up when the "placid and curious" reptile slithered over, claimed a chair and admired the twinkling lights above the table.

"Our guests had just left in the transfer back into Kununurra and I was packing down when I saw him," told 9News.com.au.

"It's an olive python... about the biggest I've ever seen.

"This is the first time one has ever come and said hi."

The olive python is one of Australia's largest snakes and can range between two and five metres long.

The species is not considered venomous but the snake typically kills its prey by constriction.

Olive pythons are typically found in Western Australia, the Northern Territoryand Queensland.

Earlier this month, a giant python gave a Gold Coast woman the fright of her life after it slithered onto her porch and down the front door.

The animal, easily two metres long, can be seen climbing down the screen door of the woman's Bonogin home, as she watches on in fear.
