Fire crews battle unit blaze at McMahons Point in Sydney

Fire crews have put out a blaze on the fourth storey of an eight-storey unit block on Sydney's north shore this morning.

Eleven fire crews were called to Blues Point Rd in McMahons Point after they were notified of the blaze by an automatic fire alarm at 9.10am.

When they arrived the unit was well alight.

"The fourth level has been heavily smoke logged but firefighters are now clearing it and ventilating it with fans," a NSW Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said.

At least some residents of the building were evacuated, but no one was inside the unit at the time of the fire.
