A crime scene has been established after a convenience store in Melbourne's north was set alight overnight.

Police believe a car was driven into the store on Major Road in Fawkner just before 6am.

The shopfront was allegedly then set alight before the alleged offenders fled the scene.

Police said the front window of the shop was damaged and confirmed no one was inside the building at the time.

Another business on the same street was targeted back in January after an offender rammed a car into the roller door of the shopfront.

Detectives are investigating and are treating the fire as suspicious.
