Ex-jockey to fight Kings Cross ban order

A former jockey forbidden from entering a string of Kings Cross venues after an alleged assault on police has vowed to fight the ban.

Benedetto Sorbello has become one of two men banned from high-risk venues in Sydney's party hot-spot under NSW's measures to combat alcohol-related violence.

The Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority this week approved the long-term banning orders put forward by NSW Police.

The order restricts Mr Sorbello, who now manages jockeys, from entering 35 high-risk venues in Kings Cross for 12 months.

Mr Sorbello's ban stems from an incident at a licensed venue in December.

He appeared in Downing Centre Local Court on Friday and pleaded not guilty to assaulting police, affray and resisting arrest.

Outside court his barrister, Anthony Robinson, said he would appeal against the Kings Cross ban in the Administrative Decisions Tribunal.

He said he was very confident that Mr Sorbello would beat it.

Mr Sorbello told reporters that he did not deserve to be banned.

"I'm 43 years old, without a criminal record," he said. "I don't think I deserve to be banned, my record speaks for itself."

The case was adjourned to February 21.
