Almost 100 jobs at the EnergyAustralia office in Melbourne have been cut as the company carries out a major restructure.

The redundancies impact technology, finance, and procurement teams, but no jobs are going in frontline services, including call centres.

The company is also looking at redeploying some of the impacted workers.

A spokesman for EnergyAustralia said the company's priority was supporting affected workers.

"There are changes happening to ensure we are well placed to deliver reliable energy for the long term," he said.

"Supporting our people through this change is a top priority, whether that's providing lots of notice to anyone impacted, through to looking at any redeployment opportunities."

The spokesperson said EnergyAustralia was undergoing "a generational energy transformation and our systems and structures at our company need to reflect that".

The job cuts come after other energy companies reduced their workforce.

The Australian Financial Review reported this month that AGL Energy was making about 300 workers redundant as the company prepares to reskill staff for a switch to renewable energy sources.
