An emaciated puppy has been found shivering in the rain at an Adelaide park, with authorities looking for the person who abandoned it.

The black and white Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross was left tied up by a leash just 10 metres from a roundabout under a tree at Borderinga Park in Munno Para.

A local spotted the terrified pup yesterday about 5.45am while on their morning walk.

The man was alarmed at the emaciated condition of the dog and immediately told the RSPCA.

The male puppy is estimated to be about nine months old and has a friendly nature.

He was wearing a black collar and leash with a white Mickey Mouse print on each.

The dog is now in care at RSPCA South Australia's Lonsdale shelter.
