Police smash alleged Brisbane ice-trafficking syndicate

Police have smashed a large-scale ice-trafficking syndicate operating across Queensland, executing more than 40 raids and swooping on 100 suspects.

The 18-month drug operation, dubbed Papa Knot, has resulted in about 800 charges, mainly relating to the trafficking and supply of ice.

Officers swooped on several properties across Roma in the state's south-west this morning – where the syndicate was allegedly based – seizing a large quantity of drugs.

Acting Superintendent Paul Hart said among those arrested included a 37-year-old man, facing 392 charges of supplying ice, nearly half of the total amount.

“One of the modes of operation of this particular network has been the use of heavy vehicles and the heavy vehicle transport industry,” Act. Supt. Hart said.

“That has provided means for these offenders that we will be alleging have used vehicles to transport quantities of ice right throughout the state.”

Officers said the operation wasn’t over just yet, with further raids to be carried out across Queensland this week.

“Ice does tear at the fabric of a small community,” Act. Supt. Hart said.

“We believe this network has far-reaching tentacles,” he said.
