Search for missing swimmer called off as man drowns north of Sydney
Emergency crews have called off their search for a swimmer who went missing off the New South Wales North Coast on Christmas Eve.
The man was seen in distress in the water at Main Beach at Lennox Head, south of Byron Bay, about 3.20pm yesterday.

Police said it was reported he "failed to resurface".
Local police, surf lifesavers, Marine Rescue NSW and a rescue helicopter were searching for the man overnight.
Meanwhile a surfer has drowned on Christmas Day at Umina Beach on the NSW Central Coast.
He was seen by family in trouble outside the flagged area and despite being given CPR, couldn't be saved.
